I basically have a love/hate relationship with escort cards. Yes, I think they’re necessary, and yes I usually like arranging them on tables. But after seeing paper escort cards over and over again with no unique displaying method, my hatred of them began. And with that hatred, my new love for “escort items” was discovered.
“Escort Items” are basically things that act as escort cards- usually the favors or a piece of table decor. They still have the guest names and their table number on them, but it’s a way of bringing attention to another aspect of your wedding decor. Escort items are presented in the traditional alphabetical escort card fashion, but can also be put on shelves or in interesting groupings as well. The thing I love about escort items is that it’s like a little “sneak peek” into your wedding right before your friends and family walk in. Guests get a little bit excited, and it shines a bit more light on another aspect of your wedding. Something like this is the perfect example…

You immediately inject a little of you and your fiance’s personalities into your wedding, and give your guests something fun talk about when they’re on the quest to find their table. It’s a detail that takes a little extra time on your part, but trust me- it can set a great tone for your wedding! So, tell me- are you already planning on using escort items, or now considering it?

My fiance and I are planning a "quirky" science themed reception, (we're both scientists). Our escort cards will be displayed on a crafty science fair backboard interspersed with pictures of us from high school working in science labs. An old lab notebook (the guest book), beakers filled with flowers, and a microscope are going to be on the table below the display. The cards will be tied to molecules, which are our table numbers, and the guests will have to find the table that has a picture of their molecule on it (they're also numbered for the non-scientists).Jessica Pollock:

Cute! I love the pig cut-outs. I'm a huge fan of escort items. I've been thinking of doing of little escort pinwheels in our wedding colors. It's an outdoor wedding and we're a young couple so I think it would be cute. Also a lot of work to put together. >_<
