I am SO excited to introduce you all to this week’s Vendor of the Week, the California-based husband and wife duo that is D’Avello Photography! I actually was lucky enough to meet them while I was in Vegas last week, so when I say that they’re both incredibly sweet people, I mean it! :) Oh, and of course their photography is pretty amazing too- that’s just to be expected of ELV photogs though. ;) But enough of me telling you all about them, how about you see for yourself?

Why do you see yourself as being Modern, Vintage, Classic, or Eclectic?

We classify our style as Modern because we lean more to the photojournalistic. We want to capture as much of our client’s personalities as possible. Our style melds to the vision the client has for their day. Our images are clean, sharp and timeless.

What is your favorite wedding detail you’ve ever seen or created?

One of our bride’s built a “photo wall” with a framed cutout for guest to take pictures in. Our favorite detail we created was for our own wedding… our antique head table. It was just for the two of us with old-fashioned ice cream parlor chairs, matching milk glass cups for our margaritas and Mr. & Mrs. signs that we made ourselves.. we were so lucky to have our wedding details were featured in The Knot and Get Married magazines.

What is your favorite store or brand?

Brynn’s is Anthropologie, the affair started in the winter of 2001 in White Plains, NY. I have been a devotee ever since! I was devastated when they released their bridal collection months after our wedding.

Mike’s favorite brand is Howe. He likes the artistic flair of the shirt designs, and I think he looks super hot in them!

What advice do you have for a newly engaged bride?

I always say there’s a mad rush of planning at the beginning, a lull, and then a frantic dash to the finish. When you start planning make the big decisions slowly. The small details that truly give the uniqueness and personality to the day can wait until after you have chosen your venue, dress and photographers. Visit a LOT of venues, and when possible go at the time of day that you will be holding your event. See the light you will be working with. Think of it as your canvas and the medium you will be using to paint your wedding. Think about how you want your photos to look. Do you like soft, glowing images with lazy sunlight? Or do you like the dramatic images you will get with an evening reception? Consider how your images will look as you pick the start time.

What is your favorite thing about weddings?

The moments. We get to see the entire day unfold, all the small details, the hectic craziness at times, the sweet moments between a dad and his daughter or a mother and son.. There is so much joy and love at a wedding.. there is nothing more amazing than looking through a lens at two people promising forever to each other. In a world where most people rush through every day we are asked to stop and look for the beauty, to photograph the details. That’s just awesome.

What qualities do you possess that enable you to work well with brides and grooms?

Neither of us are good at talking about ourselves, so I am going to steal a quote from my cousin who married us, “These two have the ability to bring everyone around them into their own reality of love, laughter, and happiness. You don’t realize it, until it happens. One moment you’re a part of what seems a normal conversation, and before you know it, everyone’s laughing.” Basically, we put our couples at ease, we don’t want them to feel like there are strangers in the room. On the flip side we don’t want to be intrusive either. It is part of our job to know when to blend in with the wallpaper and when to take charge of a situation.

What steps do you take to ensure that your clients will have amazing wedding days when working with you?

We want to make sure that our couple is happy at the end of the day, and in a month when they get their images back. We go over their expectations prior to the wedding day with the couple. Mike and I are so good at working in tandem that we can communicate without words at times, which allows us to keep the focus on the bride and groom. We work with the other vendors to keep the day running smoothly, allowing the couple to enjoy the day they worked so hard to plan.

See what I mean about them being amazing and fabulous?! If you’re in California, D’Avello Photography definitely needs to be on your list of potential photographers! Heck, if you’re ANYWHERE they need to be on your list! :)
