Eclectic Carnival-Themed Tennessee Wedding

Boy, do I have a treat of a wedding to share with you all on this Friday. A carnival theme?! Talk about choosing a theme and running with it! I can’t explain it any better than Kathy Best, venue owner and event planner, so I’m just gonna let her do it.

When guests arrived they checked in at the ticket counter to sign the guest book and receive tickets to the show. Next, they enjoyed bottled cokes, lemonade, and water along with sugar nuts from the vintage candy cart. The ceremony was held on a custom stage with four large columns and draping to give the feel of an outdoor theatre production. Following the ceremony, guests moved to other areas of the park and discovered a concession stand, a popcorn machine, a caricaturist, and juggler/stilt walker. Picnic basket centerpieces were filled with goodies and the candy table was overflowing with every kind of treat imaginable.

Sounds pretty great, right? Now I’m gonna let the pictures, shot by Joe Hendricks Photography, and the bride, Janna, take it from here.

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

I am a broad thinker by nature so I had tons of ideas when I started planning the wedding but not a real detailed plan for narrowing down or focusing all my ideas.  I never thought I would hire a planner but when we decided on the venue (Front Porch Farms), and the owner was also a wedding planner and PR event planner with established contacts, I knew that was the way to go.  She (Kathy Best) definitely helped to get my big vision narrowed down into practical and budget friendly choices to fit my vision, all without going majorly over budget.  I think hiring a planner helped save me time and money on the front end of things.  I wanted to cut costs where I could so a lot of the things I did myself or with the help of my family and friends.  There were a lot of little projects my family did before the wedding and even the day of.  I couldn’t have done it without them!

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

I did not have a huge budget to begin with so I wanted to have the “best” without paying the high end money that sometimes entails.  I know there are a ton of vendors out there but I wanted to work with the vendors that did not see me as just another bride, and just another wedding.  I did not want to skimp on quality just because I had a budget to stick to. The planner helped to bring me vendors that could work with my budget but still had quality work and reviews. I think all the vendors I chose fit those qualifications beautifully.

Did any of your vendors do anything special for you before, on, or after your wedding day that you would like to share?

We were the 5th wedding that was held at the venue we chose (it opened the winter before our wedding as a wedding venue) so it was a somewhat new venue at the time of our wedding.  Our theme was a vintage street fair/carnival type of wedding.  The owner (Kathy Best), wanted to use our wedding to really show what Front Porch Farms could do for brides who have a smaller budget but big dreams.  She definitely went above and beyond to make that dream come true.  She provided part of the entertainment by hiring the unicyclist who also did juggling and stilt walking for the guests.  She threw this in as a bonus as it was not in our budget, and he was the hit of the party.  The kids loved him and even the adults too. He was great and really completed the overall theme and feel we were going for.  All of our wedding party bragged on our photographers too.  The feedback we got from people looking at our pictures that weren’t even at the wedding was amazing.  No one had a bad thing to say about our pictures. They loved the theme too!  We wanted a unique wedding and all the vendors definitely made that happen.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

Our wedding vows were my first favorite part.  I was nervous about being in front of that many people, but during our vows, I did not even notice anyone else besides my now husband, the preacher, and me.  It was very special and I will never forget that feeling of committment and love.  My second favorite part was the balloon release when we entered the reception.  When I was a kid, we would release balloons into the local neighborhood at the end of Vacation Bible School week.  The balloons would have cards attached to them with special and encouraging messages.  I LOVED doing that each year and the memories associated with that are such fun ones!  I am a big believer in Missions and I had been on a mission trip to South Africa with my church the year before my wedding.  It had such an impact on my life and I wanted somehow to incorporate that into my wedding.  If nothing else was remembered about our wedding, I wanted people to hear about the message and work of Living Hope (the organization in South Africa my church partners with).  They do incredible life changing work with children and adults in their local communities.  I wanted to bring a little piece of South Africa to Tennessee so I got the idea from my childhood experience and decided to attach information cards about Living Hope to the balloons and release them at our reception.  It was so special to release those ballons knowing my deepest passion and something that we believe in so much was attached to them.  I wanted our wedding to reach others and encourage them to show love to others in need.  The balloon release was perfect!  It definitely made the day complete.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

I would say not to lose sight of what the wedding is truly about. It is easy to get caught up in the planning and romance of a wedding but even if things don’t get done exactly the way you want, you still will be married to the love of your life at the end of the day.  That sacred union and love betwen the two of you is the single most important thing.  Everything else will work itself out!!

A very special thanks to Joe Hendricks Photography for sharing this jam-packed wedding with us and to Janna for taking us right back to her big day.

What do you think, lovely readers? Are you as speechless as I am?

Purple and Gray Pennsylvania Wedding

[Editor's note: Happy Monday friends! You know me, I've just got to pop in to say hello! :) This wedding today is awesome not only because it's purple and gray (yes I do love everything with gray) but because this couple was all about just getting MARRIED! You know, the reason we're all here... but I'll let you find out the whole story from Kristine...]

You know what everyone says: Expect at least one thing to go wrong on your wedding day. For Faith and Greg, that one thing was the weather. They planned a beautiful outdoor wedding–ceremony under the trees on the patio, reception in a tent on the farm’s grounds. Then their wedding arrived along with the hottest day of the year and temperatures above 100 degrees. But, as a testament to the true meaning behind any wedding, Faith and Greg didn’t let the heat ruin their momentous day. They moved their reception inside to a converted barn, made some last minute additions to the flowers, and continued on with their hearts full of love. Now that’s a beautiful wedding. Take a look at the photos captured by Rich and Meg Photography and hear all about the day through Faith’s own words.

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

Our families were amazing and helped in so many ways. Having three older sisters, already married, my family has been down this wedding road a few times. They are experts at taking a large event and breaking it down to manageable pieces and accomplishing so much more than I could have on my own.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

We wanted to use vendors that we could afford but they turned out to be so much more than simply the budget-conscious option. It was important to support the people that own these businesses, not just to use them for their services. When we met and spoke to each of our vendors leading up to the wedding, we knew that we found true, solid people who give their full effort to the couples they serve and love what they do.

Did any of your vendors do anything special for you before, on, or after your wedding day that you would like to share?

Our vendors were all special to us in their own way. My brother-in-law performed our ceremony. There is something sweet about having a close family member with you and blessing your marriage at the very start. Our photographers are dear friends who spent the hottest day of the year outside using their talents to give us lasting and beautiful memories. The family that owns the venue we used for both our ceremony and reception, The Inn at Whitewing Farm, are like a second family to us now. They treated us like they would their own. Two stylists came from a nearby salon to make all the women in our family and myself beautiful in the very early hours of our wedding day. I had met the two girls only once before and it only took that one meeting for me to know that they were the two that would make all of us look our best on such a memorable day. In 100-plus degree heat, each one of us looked just as good at the end of the day as we did at the start. They gave me that confidence that I was looking my best that day and cared for the little things, such as giving me a few precious paper flowers for my hair the morning of the wedding.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

I have this memory that I continue to return to on an almost daily basis: Walking to the edge of the patio and looking down the steps that served as our aisle, and immediately finding Greg’s face. He smiled when he saw me, gave a small wave and I waved in return. I remember the reality of us becoming a family truly settled into my heart at that point and I was overjoyed to see him there, waiting for me. Our entire ceremony we crafted to be a personal reflection of our hearts and our desire for our marriage. What was so wonderful, and completely unexpected, was that our guests were blessed by what we did and said in our ceremony. There is an overwhelming sense of love and belonging on a wedding day. We were wrapped in that feeling the entire day and wouldn’t trade it for the world.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

As I’m sure most brides have been told, something will not quite go according to the original plan. And that’s completely okay. Just know that it will happen, to breathe, and know that the two of you will be married at the end of the day, regardless of whatever seemingly disastrous misshap occurs that day. Remember that it is, after all, only one day. It is a fantastic, emotional, fun, joyful, trancendent, love-filled day, but every day after just gets better and better.

I gotta say, the wedding party looks pretty darn good for 100 degree temperatures. Don’t you think? And don’t you love the indoor setting for the reception? Maybe the unexpected heat was actually a blessing in disguise…

Thanks to Rich and Meg Photography for sharing their photos with us {and braving the heat themselves to take such gorgeous shots!} and to Faith for letting us in on her fantastic, emotional, fun, joyful, transcendent, love-filled day {couldn’t have said it any better, Faith}. :)

I don't like the fact that some guests had to sit on the stone wall. Although it is romantic some of guys were not happy with that. Just my 5 cents

Classic Navy and Gray North Carolina Wedding

So, this wedding. I’m crazy about it. The bouquets are some of the prettiest I’ve ever seen. That dress, with the tiers of tulle, just about makes my heart stop. And the bride and groom? I’m pretty sure they’re bursting with joy in every picture. I can’t get enough–looking at them literally makes me happy. The duo behind Elizabeth Scott Photography had the pleasure of sharing in Natalie and Jeremy’s day with them. Get ready for some serious jubilation in three, two, one…

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

When we first got engaged I think I went out and bought every bridal magazine I could find. :)  We looked at a lot of magazines and wedding blogs to get ideas around all the details that go into a wedding and then we tailored those ideas to fit the style we wanted for our wedding day.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

For us it was important to work with people who could guide us in the planning process.  We chose a venue that had in-house catering and a day of coordinator.  Most of our other vendors (DJ, photographers, hair/makeup) had all been to our venue and worked with our coordinator before – all of that helped to make the day seamless.  Everyone we worked with was quick to respond to our questions/concerns and was genuinely excited for us and our wedding day.

Did any of your vendors do anything special for you before, on, or after your wedding day that you would like to share?

We loved working with all of our vendors!  Everyone made it such a point to capture what we wanted for the day.  Our photographers (Matt and Leslie of Elizabeth Scott Photography) were amazing.  They were so flexible and able to capture so many different photos throughout the wedding.  My hair and makeup was done by Kymm McLean (Who’s the Fairest).  Kymm really helped me to relax as I was getting ready for the ceremony, she is one of the most sincere and talented people I have ever met.  All of our guests commented about our music and Brian (Z Brothers DJ) was so wonderful to make sure that everyone had a great time on the dance floor.  Our venue coordinator (Nicole Delp at The Point Lake and Golf Club) made sure that the entire day was flawless, coordinating with all of our vendors, we truly had no worries on our wedding day.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

The whole day was perfect.  I loved getting to marry my best friend and celebrating with all of our friends and family.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

As hard as it is, don’t spend your whole engagement planning your wedding.  In the end it’s just one day and it goes by so fast.  Wedding planning can be very stressful – make sure you spend time investing in your marriage.

You’re happy now too, aren’t you? See, I told you. And I seriously want to hug Natalie for her words of wisdom. Admonishing other brides not to spend their whole engagement on planning the wedding is some of THE BEST advice I’ve ever heard. Take it to heart, brides. Come on, who doesn’t want to look like Natalie and Jeremy on their wedding day?!

A super big thank you to Elizabeth Scott Photography for these incredible photos and to our lovely sage of a bride, Natalie, for sharing some keen insight with us all.

PS. I left out the part where they rode away on a boat, didn’t I? How cool is that?!

Green and Gray San Antonio Wedding

Hi everyone! We’re ending this week on ELD with a stunner of a wedding to whom we have Phenom Photographers to thank. First of all, this couple got married under some of the most gorgeous trees I’ve ever seen. Secondly, the bride, who not only seems like the most down-to-earth gal {read her interview, you’ll love her}, looked beautiful {and oh so happy}. And third, the flowers, the invitation, the details, the cake… I’m running out of adjectives to describe it all. You’ll just have to see for yourself…

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

The thing that helped me the most while wedding planning was definitely staying organized, which I did with plenty of checklists and spreadsheets.  The person who helped me the most was my husband, Ian. We chose all of our vendors together and spent a number of weekends working on DIY projects together. We also enlisted our friends and family for help. Ian’s mom, Sue, made the jam that we used for the favors and my friend, Sydney, designed the labels.  And my friend and hair stylist, Athena, flew down from New Hampshire to do hair for my bridal party. Our friends and family also did a phenomenal job making sure everything went smoothly on the day of our wedding so  I didn’t have to do anything the day of except show up and look pretty!

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

The most important thing to me when I was looking for vendors was that they understood that I was not a very traditional bride and that we wanted our wedding to be relaxed.  I’m also not a very creative person so it was important that my vendors could take my vague ideas and really bring them to life.

Did any of your vendors do anything special for you before, on, or after your wedding day that you would like to share?

What stood out the most on the day of our wedding was definitely our first look.  We are both uncomfortable in front of the camera and some of our friends and family were mingling about but Reggie made sure that our first look was completely private and they are some of my favorite photos from the day.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

My favorite thing about my wedding was feeling completely in love and getting to share that with our closest friends and family.  I also love how everything came together and had the relaxed and rustic feeling for which I was hoping.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

My best piece of advice for other brides is to relax! Everything will come together and even if things do go wrong, at the end of the day you’ll be married to the love of your life.  Also, make sure to take a moment with your husband and just soak it all in – the day goes by way too fast.

Did you hear that, brides? Sarah says to relax! {With an exclamation point.} Thanks for the great advice, Sarah, and for sharing the memories of your day with us. And thanks to Phenom Photographers for these gorgeous photos.

Aren’t they, though? Man, oh man. That venue with all those trees and twinkle lights. I almost fell out of my seat! And I’m not just saying this–Spread the love jam favors are seriously some of my faves. What’s one of your faves from this wedding?

Oh, and PS. HAPPY FRIDAY! Enjoy your weekend, lovelies!
