How super fun?! And well, sure, photos are awesome (and these definitely are), but being behind the scenes of a shoot is fun too! Ben also had an opportunity to video portions of the “behind the scenes” of this engagement session, and it’s brilliant.  You HAVE to go watch it! It’s engagement photo season, and photographers are definitely taking advantage of all of the beautiful weather this time of year!  Carrie of Studio Blu Images sent over this engagement session that she recently did at the University of Alabama.

What a beautiful campus! Universities are a great place to have engagement sessions, especially if it’s where you and your fiance met! Thanks for sharing with us Carrie!

Jeff was studying the lighting and editing methods of the photographer who shot all of the posters and many of the promo materials for the Twilight movie saga. When Jeff met with Lindsay initially for her wedding, he was in the middle of his studies, and he saw a striking resemblance in Lindsay to Kristen Stewart. He mentioned this to her in an off-hand way, and offered (not really know if she’d be interested in it) shooting a Twilight-inspired fashion/commercial shoot instead of a standard Engagement Session. She was VERY interested, and so the wheels began turning for this fashion shoot.

How amazing is this?! You all know that I love themed engagement shoots, and this Twilight-inspired shoot is absolutely awesome! What a great idea! This could definitely be done with other favorite movies too! A huge thank you to the amazing K&K Photography for sharing this awesome session with us!

I know I would have definitely wanted a styled shoot like this…my engagement photos were pretty blah. Ask your photographer if they would like to do a styled shoot for you, or even if they’ll just help you along with a theme of some sort. That is, if you don’t already have a theme in mind!

“Amy and Andrew are from Raleigh, so the first thing was getting them to Charlotte. Andrew worked it out to be in for a weekend to visit friends, which would be followed by an opportunity for Andrew to come shadow me photographing an engagement session on Monday morning (at least, that’s what he told Amy). Once Monday morning rolled around, I picked up the phone to call Andrew and unfold the plan……

Andrew relayed the message to Amy – the engaged couple for the session had cancelled on me because of the weather (lies……all LIES!!! , but if they wanted, I could go ahead and just photograph the two of them, as Andrew would still be able to learn a lot being in front of the camera. Amy took the bait and the pair headed to meet me.”

“I had told Andrew beforehand what I was going to say that would be the cue for him to drop to his knee……

“One thing I’ll do sometimes to encourage interaction is to have the couple face the opposite ways from each other and when I say “go”, I’ll have them turn around and run toward each other into a hug. So, let’s go ahead and do that. Amy, go ahead and face that way, and Andrew, you face the other way.”

“Okay, GO! Turn around!”

Amy turned around, Andrew dropped to his knee, and my heart about stopped I was so dang excited!

{Breathtaking, right?!} And the rest is beautifully documented history!

The love and happiness of these two is so awesome to see! What a perfect time to take engagement photos…excited, happy, radiant, and so in love! It seems like these surprise shoots are becoming a lot more popular now. I wish I had known about this, I totally would have put a little birdie in my husband ear! I know my best friend already asked me to put one in her boyfriend’s, when the time comes around.

I wish I had worn stylish clothes like this for my engagement shoot! I was told that I needed to stay away from prints and bright colors, but if someone tells you that, they obviously haven’t seen photos like these!  The best engagement photos are the ones that aren’t boring and bland…wear whatever your heart desires. Prints, bright colors, colorful heels…just be yourself, that’s all that matters! Thank you to Liga Photography for demonstrating that you don’t have to wear boring clothes to have amazing photos!

These photos are magical, am I right?  It definitely helps being on the West coast of Florida too though.  We always have some pretty decent beach to photograph on, and we have a perfect view of the sunset!  Thank you for sharing this engagement shoot CSE Photography!

Astrid of Astrid and Rene Photography, a husband and wife photography team in Naples, FL, sent me these gorgeous photo boards of Sarah and Mike’s engagement shoot. Astrid wrote, “Sarah and Mike really put the ‘F” in fall and fun! Their wedding is this Saturday here in Naples, on the beach and then at Grey Oaks.” These photos were shot in Sarah’s neighborhood! It’s beautiful, I would have never guessed it was a neighborhood!

They definitely look like they’re a fun couple! I absolutely love photos with pets, and even more so, I’m loving the light in these photos! I can’t wait to see their wedding photos! Thanks for sharing Astrid!

These engagement photos that I speak of are known as Surprise Proposal photos! Thoughtful boyfriends have a photographer conspicuously capture photos of them proposing! I know guys are always trying to think of innovative ways to propose, and this is a great idea! What better way to preserve the memory of the proposal, and have an impromptu engagement shoot literally RIGHT after getting engaged!

Sharon Bushman is a photographer in New York City, and she actually specializes in Surprise Proposal photography! How amazing is that?! Enough of my blabbing about photography and engagements, I’ll let the photos speak for themselves!

Apparently Central Park is a very popular place to get engaged! However, you don’t have to be in New York just to do one of these, I’m sure any photographer would love to do a surprise proposal shoot!

I just LOVE this idea of capturing the VERY moment of getting engaged! The emotions are so incredibly organic…there are really no words for it! And it would be great to send the photos to friends and family to announce your engagement!
