Blush Pink & Navy Vintage Chic Wedding

Happy Wednesday everyone!!! Traveling for the past week was fun, but boy am I glad to finally be HOME… mostly because I’m spoiled with my big desktop computer and fast internet! :) For today’s feature, I have a lovely wedding from Focus Photography for you all. A light, blush pink paired with navy, combined with vintage elements and a chic style make for a pretty awesome wedding if you ask me! The lovely bride Nicolle will also be sharing her wedding insight with us- keep an eye out for it… you might learn something new! :)

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

Soon after I got engaged, I created my wedding planning binder (a suggestion from a married bridesmaid) that really helped me stay organized and communicate well with my vendors. I kept inspiration pictures for everything in it (flowers, hair, makeup, dress, centerpieces, escort cards, etc) and brought it to all my meetings so every vendor could see my entire vision. I got a lot of praise from them for being so organized! I also kept a calendar in it to mark important deadlines, and copies of all my contracts so I could easily refer to them at meetings and on the day of the wedding. My maid of honor (who works in event planning) came to most of our venue meetings which was also a huge help because I had NO idea what questions to ask! Our bridal party and family were actually really amazing and helped with so many things before and on the day of the wedding, I don’t know what we would do without them!!

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

We didn’t have an unlimited budget, so I did extensive research to make sure I was getting the most for our money. With that in mind, we prioritized our vendors, venue being the most important and photographer being the second most important. I followed my intuition with most of the vendors, and decided to work with people I felt comfortable with and who seemed very knowledgeable and reliable.

Did any of your vendors do anything special for you before, on, or after your wedding day that you would like to share?

Our photographer did something pretty cool – they gave us a large masonite print of our favorite engagement photo to display at the wedding. We also got a free 2012 calender with our wedding photo album! Our videographer made a ‘teaser’ video for us about a week after the wedding, which was really awesome too because we got to watch it while we were still on our honeymoon.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

One of my favorite moments was when we did our “first look”. I was so anxious all morning, and as soon as I got to hug Matt all my anxiety melted away. I was also just obsessed with our venue and couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else! Other than that, the feeling of having every single person we care about there with us to celebrate and support us was a uniquely wonderful feeling that I will cherish forever.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

If you can, hire a coordinator or planner! I wish I had hired a wedding planner, but in the end we had a day-of coordinator and without her it would have been utter chaos. I think I would’ve saved myself a lot of stress if I had someone helping out beforehand, because there are just a ton of tiny little things you never think of until it’s too late. I enjoyed a lot of my DIY projects, but making sure it all comes together how you planned while you are also trying to get ready for the wedding is super tough!! Also, make sure to take mental snapshots all day long so you remember the day. I did this, especially during the ceremony (looking out at the guests helps) and I am happy to say it WASN’T all a blur!

Yep, that advice is pretty spot on- I of course totally agree. :) Nicolle, thank you for sharing your wedding with us, and thank you to Focus Photography for capturing such gorgeous photos of it! Oh, and I do have a little something else for this feature too… the teaser video from Mawwiage Films!

Matthew & Nicolle Kasch from Mawwiage Films on Vimeo.

There’s just something so amazing about having moments captured on video, don’t you think?!

Well, I don’t know about you, but I just love the blush pink with the navy… and the postcards inside frames as table numbers are awesome! They give the tables an extra pop of color- love it! What are your favorite details from this vintage chic wedding?

I lovelovelove your blog even though i never comment. however, i had to tell you that i love having the video in addition to the pictures! not sure if that's something you've done before or try to do often, but it's definitely great to see. i love watching wedding videos and it's so cool to see certain things come to life - especially seeing them walk down the aisle with guests throwing the rose petals after seeing the photo teasing that above! love it.

Awww, thank you Charlotte!!!! I do try to add in the video whenever it's sent to me, and thankfully the bride sent over the link with her interview answers!! :) Love YOU... and feel free to comment more!!! :)

Vi Nguyen - Thank you!! The robes actually came from Forever 21, and I ironed on rhinestone monogram letters to each one. Even though the robes were inexpensive, I wanted to make sure the girls could wear them after the wedding so I opted for monograms instead of "bridesmaid". Charlotte - I 100% agree with you about the video, which is why I made sure to send it in to Lauren! During my planning I always LOVED seeing everyone's videos. And I highly encourage brides to get videographers, because it was for sure worth it!
Rustic & Vintage DIY Wedding

Hi friends! Sorry for later posting today… this 3 hour time difference in Vegas is weird to me! ;) Bare with me though, because my laptop is on it’s last leg of life, so it took me about twice the time to write this. For some reason, my keyboard enjoys just deleting the words that I write. Yep, it’s super fun.

This North Carolina wedding from Meet The Burks is absolutely adorable… not to mention the bride put together most all of it with her grandmother! Love it when details have a special meaning! :) And the bride, Miranda, is stopping by today to tell us all about her DIY wedding!

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

I came up with my ideas from many hours looking through blogs and my grandmother was instrumental in helping me make my vision into reality. We spent several weekends carefully crafting DIY elements and she was a great help in providing jars and milkglass.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

Honestly, budget. I knew we didn’t have a lot to spend, but I was confident we could still have a beautiful wedding. So my goal was to make the most of our budget by DIYing everything I could and prioritizing the rest. I designed the save-the-dates, invitations, and programs. I made my bouquet, the bridesmaids bouquets, and the boutinierres. The dress I wore was from a friend. The milkglass vases and candle jars were collected throughout the year we were engaged by myself and family members and our flowers were ordered wholesale and arranged by my family the day before the wedding. Our vendors (catererer, cake, DJ, wedding director) were all friends of my husband’s family (who is from Wilmington where we were married). We even entered a photo contest and won second place, so our photography was 50% off. Because we saved and did many aspects of the wedding ourselves we were able to splurge on the venue.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

This is such a tough question so I’ll give you my top 3 moments.
1. Our First Look- We did our first look at the exact spot where Mark proposed almost exactly one year prior at a friends private house on the sound. It was was special spot and such a sweet and intimate moment to share before the ceremony. I loved having the moment between just the two of us.
2. Communion During the Ceremony- We decided to take communion during our ceremony and afterward we prayed together while Mark’s sister sang one of my favorite songs. It was such a personal moment eventhough we were in front of our friends and family because our backs were to them and we were facing out at the water. I remembering feeling so thankful and full of joy!
3. Walking Down the Aisle- Words cannot describe how wonderful it was to walk down the isle to the man of my dreams. I know it’s cheesy, but it was such a climatic moment to walk past the faces of our friends and family with the music and the sun shining with the confidence of knowing I was marrying the man for me.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

Embrace the stress and take breaks from planning. Maybe some brides didn’t find wedding planning stressful, but I did! Eventhough it was good stress and I was excited it was still stress. When you get engaged people tell you what a sweet time engagement is, which I believe is true, but they don’t say to you (at least no one said to me) that it will also be a stressful time. So my advice is to embrace the stress, acknowlegdge that planning a wedding is stressful and try enjoy it through the stress because it will all be worth it in the end.

Thank you so much for sharing your wedding planning experience with us Miranda! And thank you to Meet The Burks for capturing it all amazingly!

What’s your favorite part of this vintage DIY wedding? I love all of the burlap and twine accents… it adds a nice bit of rustic to everything!

Mexican Inspired Wedding in Fallbrook California

This wedding is laced with bright and chic DIY details to add the perfect touch of Mexican-inspired flair. Tessa and David took on most of the planning process themselves and recruited friends and family members to help them add those special details. You can’t help but love their beautiful altar, the Mexican crepe paper flowers and adorable photobooth backdrop.

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

My husband and I did most of the planning process on our own. We spent some time on herecomestheguide.com when looking for venues and a friend who had gotten married a few years earlier gave me all of her planning guides, including a list of venues. Much of our wedding was DIY so checking out wedding blogs to get ideas really helped. Our venue (Wedgewood Weddings at the Golf Club of California in Fallbrook) included the ceremony, the meal, drinks, bartender and DJ. Although I always dreamed of doing a wedding from scratch, it was very helpful to a place that offered a lot of services, depending on what you wanted. I made the save the dates and invitations (with assembly help from my husband!). My aunt has beautiful handwriting, so she addressed them. I wrote out the programs and a picture that my 5 year old nephew drew of my husband and I was the cover. I made the guest book on MyPublisher from our engagment photos and other photos of our 4.5 years of dating. The guest book table was decorated with a large “M” that I painted to match our invites and photos that my husband had mosaiced of the two of us (davidmahlow.com). My dad made us a cake plate with Mexican tiles. My mom then hand embroidered our ring pillow to match our invites and my nana then made it into a pillow. My mom, aunts, Nana and mother in law made the bouquets and boutonnieres on the day of the wedding (from succulents from my aunt’s garden and flowers from the wholesale market). Our centerpiece flowers, ceremony decorations and favors were Mexican crepe paper flowers, handmade by Teresita and Xochitl, a mother-daugther team in Old Town San Diego. They also made a big donkey pinata to grace the kids’ table.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

Honestly, price was the most important. We were paying for most of the wedding on our own and a big honeymoon was important. Wedgewood was one of the cheapest options, because it is east San Diego, but it was beautiful and elegant and the Spanish style architecture fit our Mexican themed wedding. We were so blessed to win our wedding photography by Vanessa Ha from a contest that she had on another wedding blog.

Did any of your vendors do anything special for you before, on, or after your wedding day that you would like to share?

Vanessa was a dream to work with. She also gave us engagement pictures and day after shots, which we would have not done either had we not won them. Photography was important to me, so this was a huge help to have beautiful photography for free. She was very sweet and went to every location that we took pictures at ahead of time to scope it out. Her husband also came along as her assistant and held all of our extra items and changes of clothes and her extra equipment. She got our pictures to us within a month and they were beautifully package in a protective book.

We also loved our cake vendor, Twiggs Bakery. Dan was so helpful while we decided exactly what cake we wanted. We had already gone cake testing at 3 other places (including one where the woman sat across the table from us and stared as we tried the cake) and we had had it. We almost didn’t go to Twiggs, but we are grateful that we did. Dan was incredibly organized and gave us plenty of time alone to try things and then came back and explained all different types of cakes and frostings. Most importantly, the cake was delightful! We had the cake iced very simply and then put fresh succulents on it. My mom helped place the succulents and said that Dan was wonderfully helpful.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

My favorite part of the day was the ceremony. On one hand, you forget that 100 of your closest family and friends are there but on the other hand, you see all these people who have come to celebrate your love. I also loved the cake cutting. I was not one of those brides who had always wanted to get married so I never paid attention to wedding ceremony and reception details. I ran up to my girl friends when the DJ announced the cake cutting ceremony and asked what my husband and I were supposed to do. Then I ran over to the cake and my husband, where we proceeded to cut the thinnest sliver ever and could barely pull it out from the rest of the cake. It still makes me laugh to think of it. David’s favorite part when I walked down the aisle.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

I am advising all of my recently engaged friends to get day after photos. We started late and were a bit rushed on the day of, but I wasn’t stressed because I knew that we would get pictures the next day. It was also fun to dress up again the next day and spend the day, just the two of us, still dressed and walking around another location. I also recommend to start early if you are going to DIY a lot! I spent many nights up till 3am the week before our wedding. Your day will be imperfectly perfect- enjoy it!

A wedding that adds meaningful (and fun) aspects of the couple’s culture are always fun, and I love how Tessa and David did just that. Did you add any cultural touches to your wedding?

- Brit

Stylish & Modern Pink & Black Wedding {Part 2}

Alright, time for Part 2 of this fabulous pink and black wedding!!! Part 1 left off just as the bride, Alexandra, and her father were about to walk down the aisle…

Did any of your vendors do anything special for you before, on, or after your wedding day that you would like to share?

It’s amazing how when you plan a wedding you feel like you make life long friends with some of your vendors.
My flowers were absolutely stunning. I went to multiple florists before I chose Tiffany at Floriade.  When I went into the meeting and told her my colors and that my theme was kind of a vintage/rock/chic, she got it!  Tiffany is an artist. She  went above and beyond. She even covered the aisle with rose petals. Total surprise!  My photographers are also tremendously talented and creative artists. I adore Ben and Rebecca of Kallima Photography. They were witnesses to mine and my husbands most special moments with each-other and our families on the day of the wedding. They gently, lovingly and expertly directed us all through a very full and busy day.  And most importantly, my photos ROCK and look like something out of a magazine spread. Carrie at The White Magnolia made my wedding dress shopping experience a joy.  My seamstress Martha Shump is another. She was so kind and always exuded such confidence, even when my wedding dress was in pieces!  There were so many people that laid down their time, talents, money and life to make this day special. They are too many to name, but I want to thank them for making my wedding day my dream come true.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

Honestly, that day was truly one of the best day’s of my life. Everything was so perfect, wonderful and right. If I had to pick a favorite part, it would have to be our beautiful ceremony, surrounded by our closest friends and family and it took place in the same little chapel my parents were married in. The Chapel looked like something out of a fairy tale.  My husbands bandmates sang one of my favorite songs as my father walked me down the aisle. Two people very close to Jordan and I spoke at our wedding; my Aunt Edi (an ordained minister) and the Reverend Sean Yost.  Their special words conveyed to all in attendance all the faith, love and depth that was in mine and Jordan’s heart that night.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

1. Surround yourself with the people that truly love you, care about you and want the very best for you.
2. Don’t be afraid to call in favors. You will need all the help you can get. For most Brides your wedding is the biggest party or event you will ever put on. You and your Mom can’t do everything. From the beginning of my engagement to the day of the wedding, the people in my life made themselves available to help me in whatever ways they could. It was such a blessing and such a help during what was the busiest year of my life.
3. Invest in great photography AND videography!  Besides your memory, it’s all you will have when your wedding  is over. There is no price you can put on that.
4. Even if you have to pay a person, make sure you put someone in charge the day of the wedding besides you or your mom.  This is a day of reflecting, pampering, primping and joy for you both.
5.  Finally, try to relax and take mental pictures, it will help make the day go by a little slower. :)

Um, most awesome advice from a bride EVER!!!! Thank you so much for reliving your wedding day with us Alexandra! And how about those AMAZING shots of her and her groom that Kallima Photography captured?! They definitely ROCKED it out, even with it being dark! :)

So what do you all think of the pink and black together? I just LOVE the tablescapes and all of the candlelight!
