Vendor of the Week: Sweet November Events

This week’s Vendor of the Week, Erica of Sweet November Events, might possibly be one of the sweetest ladies that I know- no pun intended! Let’s learn a little bit about this fabulous wedding planner based in Charlotte, North Carolina, shall we?

Why do you see yourself as being Modern, Vintage, Classic, or Eclectic?

I fall more into the modern/classic camp personally but pride myself on being able to help my clients bring their wedding vision to life regardless of their style. Whether they are having a traditional garden party, a multi-cultural celebration, or an eclectic affair that includes a carnival for their younger guests, I can really help them do whatever they envision- or some version of it- while maintaining their budget.

What is your favorite wedding detail you’ve ever seen or created?

Something I’ve done for a few couples that they have LOVED is surprised them with extra decor & details at their seats or sweetheart table. A big favorite has been a framed photo of their dog(s) so when they sit down they have a little reminder of their furry friend! Another favorite was when I used an old window as a ceremony program. The bride didn’t want traditional paper programs but liked the idea of having something that showed guests who was in the bridal party, etc. so I used scrapbook paper to back the windows & chalk markers and sharpies to write the info.

What is your favorite store or brand?

Kate Spade is my very favorite brand! But as far as everyday shopping, I spend a LOT of time and money at Target, Hobby Lobby, IKEA, and HomeGoods!

What advice do you have for a newly engaged bride?

To try to enjoy the planning process (and obviously hiring a planner is a great place to start!) and learn to “let go” of some of the little things to make your life easier. For example, I had a bride who was very specific about the vision she had & her mother didn’t always agree with what she wanted, but the cake was extremely important to the MoB so the bride basically let her mom handle the cake design, style, etc. as long as it “fit” (which it did). Mom & bride were both happy with the outcome and it relieved some stress on the bride to know that mom had a hand in the decision making. I also highly recommend the occasional date night with your fiance to hang out and do anything BUT talk about wedding plans. It’s a good way to decompress & recharge from all of the planning/thinking!

What is your favorite thing about weddings?

Watching the bride & groom enjoy their wedding and reception and knowing that I had a hand in making it happen and making sure it’s stress free!

What qualities do you possess that enable you to work well with brides and grooms?

I’m extremely outgoing and tend to make friends with all of my clients! I feel that clients who are a good fit for me trust me, my opinions, and my expertise and therefore are more relaxed throughout the process.

What steps do you take to ensure that your clients will have amazing wedding days when working with you?

Initially I do this by recommending & referring the best vendors for my clients’ budget, style & personality. I make sure to go over a detailed timeline with them and answer as many questions/concerns that they have before the wedding day so they don’t have to think about all the little things and what happens when, etc. I always try to fix any potential issues/problems that pop up without them even finding out about them and do my best to make sure that, in addition to the couple, that VIPs (parents, grandparents, bridal party, etc.) is happy & comfortable throughout the day!

I hope you all love Sweet November Events as much as I do! PS- Kate Spade is one of my favorite brands too! Be sure to go check out the Sweet November Events ELV listing to see more of their work!

Vendor of the Week: Caroline Creates

It’s time for our newest Vendor of the Week! This week we’re on to an invitation designer, Caroline Creates! Based out of the Dallas/Fort Worth area, Caroline also works with couples from all over- no need to be local to her! That’s the beauty of having custom invitations done- you can use whoever you want! :) Now let’s take a look at her work and get to know her, shall we?

Why do you see yourself as being Modern, Vintage, Classic, or Eclectic?

I see myself as eclectic because I’ve worked with many types of brides and have designed many different styles of wedding stationery. I’ve worked with traditional brides having church weddings to rockabilly outdoor weddings and everything in between!

What is your favorite wedding detail you’ve ever seen or created?

I love seeing paper used in unique and unexpected ways at weddings and events. I recently did the stationery for a wedding where I cut luggage style tags out of different types of paper that coordinated with the original wedding suite. Guests were asked to write messages to the bride and groom and then they were hung on a tree. So unique and something that people will remember.

What is your favorite store or brand?

Put me in any paper store and I’m a happy girl! I could literally look at paper all day.

What advice do you have for a newly engaged bride?

Don’t put so much emphasis on the day and really follow your heart when planning your wedding. I think brides become so consumed in the planning of it all and forget to focus on why they are there in the first place. Also, the wedding should be a reflection of you. You don’t want to look back at pictures 5 years later and say “that wasn’t us at all!” I always try to emphasize this to my brides when we meet. Your wedding should be a reflection you and your love for each other.

What is your favorite thing about weddings?

Love! It’s what they are all about and I can’t get enough of it. Nothing makes me happier than to see two people so in love and helping them with their big day. It really makes what I do so worthwhile.

What qualities do you possess that enable you to work well with brides and grooms?

I’m a great listener and I really do try to get to know my clients and what they are planning for their big day. This helps so much with the design process. Often times, I find myself walking my brides through other areas in their wedding. Working on invitations, programs, table cards, etc. tends to do that and I think brides really appreciate that they can come to me for help.

What steps do you take to ensure that your clients will have amazing wedding days when working with you?

Communication with my brides is key and building that trust is so important so they know that when their stationery arrives, it’s exactly what they asked for. My job is to make the paper part of their wedding as stress free as possible!

Be sure to check out more of Caroline Creates’ work in her ELV photo gallery and on her NEW website!! :)

Vendor of the Week: Mikkel Paige Photography

It’s time for the first Vendor of the Week of 2012! I am so excited to introduce you all to our newest New York/New Jersey photographer, Mikkel Paige Photography! Mikkel is pretty awesome… and her photography is absolutely gorgeous! I think it’s safe to say that I am IN LOVE with her work!

Why do you see yourself as being Modern, Vintage, Classic, or Eclectic?

I see myself as a modern photographer who loves to capture eclectic events. My style is timeless; I keep true to bold, vibrant tones to capture the mood of the day through colors, and tend to frame photographs from very distinct angles. Since I’m a crafty person I appreciate all the do-it-yourself touches a bride and groom have invested in for their special day, which translates to my distinct attention to detail. I pride myself on attention this meticulous aspect of my personality and it shows in my work!

What is your favorite wedding detail you’ve ever seen or created?

My favorite wedding details are those from Etsy that are clearly hand-crafted. I identify with the crafty side of the business and I like to support local and small businesses myself. Some great things I’ve seen are custom ring boxes for the ring bearer to carry and customized hangers for the brides dress. As a photographer, I definitely appreciate a great hanger to compliment a wonderful wedding dress!

What is your favorite store or brand?

It’s hard for me to choose just one store or brand I adore. Many brands come together to make a complete picture that’s successful for an event. I will say I’m addicted to Pinterest though! You can find all my inspiration there, username Mikkel Paige!

What advice do you have for a newly engaged bride?

Advice I have for a newly engaged bride is to take some time to enjoy being engaged! Then certainly capture this moment in your life with some engagement photos! Not only will you love having them years from now as you reminisce about this chapter in your life but it allows you to familiarize yourself with being in front of a camera with your fiance. Additionally, it allows the photographer to familiarize him or herself with you! It’s a win-win situation!

What is your favorite thing about weddings?

My favorite thing about weddings is that the love in the air is palpable. I am truly continuously honored to work in such an amazing position where brides and grooms select me as the lucky one to capture their day’s special moments. As I stand there photographing a bride and groom, I can’t help but be affected by the electricity in the many special moments I get to be a part of.

What qualities do you possess that enable you to work well with brides and grooms?

I am such an outgoing and personable woman! I am always incredibly optimistic, and I’m a level-headed voice in potential moments of chaos on a special yet busy day.

It’s incredibly important to me that you are able to connect with me and, similarly, for me to connect with my brides and grooms. I make sure I meet all of my clients before they sign a contract whether it’s via Skype (if we’re long distance) or in person for coffee. This is to ensure we’re a good fit as you “hire the photographer, not just the photographs.”

I stay in contact with you from the moment you send your first inquiry, to the days leading up to your wedding, to your big day. It’s as if I’m an old friend by the time your wedding rolls around!

What steps do you take to ensure that your clients will have amazing wedding days when working with you?

I work out all details before a couple’s wedding to ensure that the day runs as smoothly as possible. This entails contacting the wedding venue to touch base, letting vendors know I’m excited to work with them, and most importantly working with the bride and groom to coordinate schedules and important details.

My wish for all my brides and grooms is that they build up such trust and faith in my abilities as their photographer all they need to do on their day is simply enjoy each moment.

So gorgeous, right? There’s more gorgeousness in Mikkel Paige Photography‘s ELV gallery too though, so be sure you go check it out! :)
