Vintage Travel-Inspired California Wedding

Happy Monday everyone! Um wow, can you believe it’s April already?! I’m still in denial- it feels like March didn’t even happen! Any of you with me on that? I’m also curious to know how many of you are getting married this month, since April marks the start of wedding season for just about everywhere! Anyone? ;)

Well, this vintage travel-inspired wedding by Green Orchid Events and Whitney Darling Photography that I have for you today is an excellent example of what happens when you design a wedding to really reflect the couple. In this case, the bride and groom, Katie and Luke, absolutely loved traveling and even lived overseas for some time, and so it was natural that they have a travel-inspired wedding. From accessories to drinks, they were able to successfully incorporate travel in many aspects of the wedding. Katie was kind enough to stop by and share some of her insight about planning her wonderful travel-inspired wedding with us…

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

Green Orchid Events and my mother helped the MOST during the planning process. Also, the staff at Estancia was extremely helpful and accommodating with all my questions. The day of the wedding would have been impossible without Angelica and her team with Green Orchid Events. They made my day SO smooth! My mother was the artistic eye behind all the small details. We planned and created every last detail. My mother is so creative!

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

The most importance thing when deciding who to work with for our wedding was the connection we made! Of course, budget had to play in the decision, however, it was mostly the connection to be sure we had the same idea for our wedding.

Did any of your vendors do anything special for you before, on, or after your wedding day that you would like to share?

Our photographer, Whitney, took a few polaroid pictures of us at our wedding. She said they were for the honeymoon so we could remember our wedding. We LOVED that and they are now a part of our home. Green Orchid Events decorated our honeymoon suite with little details from our wedding. The room looked gorgeous…we were so surprised! Jacque Spitzer, our videographer, created an amazing trailer and video for us. We still watch it all the time! Tammi, my makeup artist, gifted my some bridal lipgloss. It’s the small things that mean a lot!

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

The favorite thing about my wedding was seeing Luke so incredibly happy. The look on his face during the first look and the hugs throughout the evening from him was so telling that this man was going to love me forever. There’s no greater joy than knowing I get to share this life with him! There’s so much to love! Beach yoga in the morning with my bridesmaids, dancing with my Dad, sharing a Guinness toast with all our favorite people, and dancing our butt off with awesome music and laser lights is just a FEW of the highlights. Everything was just PERFECT.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

A. Pray. A lot.  B. Do a first look! This was such an intimate and special time for us. It also allowed us and our bridal party to enjoy the cocktail hour which means we could actually sit and eat our dinner instead of greeting guest. It was a win win! C. Make your wedding personal in every detail. D. Save money for an amazing honeymoon!

Oh, and that video trailer that Katie mentioned? It is indeed pretty awesome…

Luke + Katie Wedding Trailer from Jacques Spitzer on Vimeo.

A big thank you to Katie for her excellent advice, and to Green Orchid Events and Whitney Darling Photography for sharing Katie and Luke’s amazing wedding! :)

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely LOVE the vintage travel theme! It was perfect too, since traveling is one the bride and groom’s favorite things to do! Oh, and did you see Katie’s hairpiece? She made it, and the coins in it are all from various places that they visited together. Love that! I also loved the “passport” escort cards! That is how a wedding should be- a total reflection of you and your fiance and your relationship.

So tell me- do any of you have anything that you’re planning on doing to reflect you and your fiance?

Pink, Orange & Navy Florida Wedding

Happy Friday! I think this bright and beautiful Florida wedding from Pure7Studios that I have for you all today is an excellent way to close out the week, don’t you?  Florida isn’t usually thought of as being Southern, but having lived there my whole life, I can assure you it is indeed. Well, this Florida wedding definitely has all the makings of a great southern wedding- awesome bowties for the groomsmen, bright and gorgeous Lilly Pulitizer for the bridesmaids, koozies, and peonies! Sounds pretty awesome to me! ;) And the adorable bride, Carol, is stopping by to share some of her wedding planning story with us!

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

My mom was Super-Mom and couldn’t have have been more awesome, supportive, and creative. My dad was relaxed and trusted us girls to make the day perfect, his only requests were good drinks and a good band, we took care of the rest! My husband, Carter, was more supportive and enthusiastic than I ever imagined a guy could be. And it didn’t hurt that he looked dashing and dapper in his bow-tie come the day of :)

Though I am a perfectionist at heart and have trouble delegating tasks, I knew I wanted to be relaxed on my wedding day and needed a wedding planner that I could trust to execute every last detail.  I hired Rochelle Youd out of Panama City, FL and would not have changed a thing! I never expected that we would all be so relaxed on the big day… but we were and it made it even more perfect.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

Accountability. We hired vendors based on friend’s outstanding recommendations.

Did any of your vendors do anything special for you before, on, or after your wedding day that you would like to share?

Our photographers really put us at ease, which made our pictures much more natural. They also came to the destination a day early to get to know the area and got some shots of the town that were great for our album. Our wedding planner went above and beyond throughout the whole process. Words can’t describe how much of a help she was. She even employed her entire family to make the  weekend a success; her daughter baby-sat the fussy infants, and her son served spiked pina-colada sno-cones at the end of the night!

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

The ceremony was my favorite part of the day. It felt perfectly intimate though we were surrounded by 200 guests. The atmosphere of the historic Southern church and beautiful music brought on so many emotions. I wish it could have lasted forever!

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

Our planner advised that during the reception Carter and I needed to stick together. We thought this would be hard to do, but we made a point to visit guests together, as a couple, and it made all the difference. And we spent a lot of that together time on the dance floor boogieing down, which I highly recommend :)

Ah yes, excellent advice Carol! Thank you so much for sharing your wedding insight with us! And huge thank you to the amazing team of Pure7Studios for sharing their fabulous images too! :)

How about that adorable tandem bike?! Now THAT is a getaway! :) Did you see the bracelets that the bridesmaids all had? Those were pretty great… and of course I love the bouquets! ;) Did you have a favorite detail from this wedding? How did you like the bright color palette of pink, orange and navy… are any of you using those colors? Am I asking too many questions now? How about now? ;)

I love that even though all the girls matched, the boys had on cute different patterned bow ties. They did a great job of avoiding matchy matchy but still creating a cohesive design. Everyone looks like they're having a ball!

Pink Vintage DIY Oklahoma Wedding

Oh my gorgeousness do I have a fabulous wedding to share with you all today! Not only is this wedding full of gorgeous shades of pale pink and vintage-style DIY details, but the photography by Josh McCullock is absolutely phenomenal. Like it-will-take-your-breath-away-and-make-your-day phenomenal. Of course it helps that the bride, Aubrey, is also a photographer, so she certainly knew all about details! She’s sharing some great wedding planning insight with us today, so be sure to take note! :)

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

My mom an sister were the ones who mainly helped me throughout the whole process. On the wedding day, a few of my mom’s closest friends gave up their days to set up and take down the entire wedding. And the night before the wedding, my friend, Anna, stayed up with me till 2am to help me with last minute details. That meant the world to me.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

Since I’m a photographer, it was extremely important that our wedding was documented by a great photographer (both professional and artistic). You get what you pay for, and even though we had a fairly tight budget, I searched for vendors that we could afford, but I wasn’t afraid to invest in those who were professional and great at what they do.

Did any of your vendors do anything special for you before, on, or after your wedding day that you would like to share?

Josh, our photographer, sent us presents after we booked with him. My present was a really cute t-shirt that I wear all the time! I love it!

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

A lot of things! I loved how the decor came together so elegantly. I had the best time dancing the night away with our friends. Overall, I was just extremely thankful to be surrounded by the people we love.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

Don’t stress over every little detail and don’t expect everything to be perfect. Your guests will never know if the cake didn’t turn out exactly how you wanted, or if your hair piece broke. Just take everything in stride and enjoy the day.

Okay, how adorable are Aubrey and her husband?! Thank you so much for sharing your wedding insight with us Aubrey!

I must say- I am SO very thankful and proud to say that Josh McCullock Photography is a member of Every Last Vendor! Amazing images, right?! I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of his amazing work in the future! And how about all of those awesome details? Milk glass, books, frames… just the right amount of vintage and elegance, don’t you think? Did you catch the vintage window that doubled as a sort of program, displaying the bridal party’s names? Or the quilt for guests to sign (made by Aubrey’s aunt)? So many wonderful details… which one is your favorite? You know I’m a sucker for amazing bouquets, so those beauties are my choice! :)

I just want to repeat this bride's advice in case you missed it: "I wasn’t afraid to invest in those who were professional and great at what they do." If I had to give only one piece of Hindsight Advice for the rest of my life, this would be it!

Southern Picnic Wedding Inspiration Shoot

It’s no secret that I LOVE an awesome inspiration shoot. Heck- it’s why I do them myself all the time! But I also love when fabulous wedding pros get together for inspiration shoots, and most of all, I love sharing them with you! The beauty about inspiration shoots is that they’re things that have been envisioned by those designing the shoot. Often times they’re things that haven’t been done for real weddings yet, but they’re awesome concepts that would be great to use… hence the word *inspiration*! When ELV photographer Ashley Daniell sent me this Southern picnic shoot, I instantly fell in love with it and knew that I absolutely needed to share it with y’all! (Pun totally intended)

A little bit from Ashley and the planner, Shannon of Shannon Reeves Events:

The vendors involved in this styled shoot are from Florida, Texas and Alabama. We like to think we have this Southern thing mastered. Created under giant oaks on the lawn of The Southwood House – an elegant Tallahassee manor dating back to 1865 – this styled shoot captures the wedding of a good old boy and a pretty Southern girl and their innocent, sweet-as-pie love. A “strawberry wine, one-bottle-of-wine-and-two-dixie-cups” kind of love. From the ’53 Chevy truck and the camelias to the sweet tea and real-life newlyweds with the sweetest Georgia accents we’ve ever heard (seriously, we wish we would have videotaped them), everything we love about the South are in these photos!

SO adorable, right y’all? (I just had to say it again.) I love the bunting around the tree at the beginning of the shoot… and the cake bunting too! All of the paper products by A&P Designs are pretty amazing as well! And that bouquet is gorgeous, don’t you think? I KNOW some of you are Southern bridesdoes any of this inspiration shoot strike your fancy? Have you been inspired for your own wedding this fabulous southern picnic shoot?
